Lazaroo – Wednesday, January 25, 2012

Pray the words of this Lazaroo aloud, in holy fear:
“Wisdom calls aloud…‘whoever listens to me will live in safety and be at ease, without fear of harm.’”
(Proverbs 1:20, 33)
That’s quite a promise, Jesus…
easy to misunderstand.
When You tell me wisdom will keep me safe
I’d do well to remember where that same wisdom took You:
to an excruciating
publicly humiliating
death on a cross.
Something tells me that what You felt while You were crying out in agony in the throes of death isn’t exactly what most of us picture to be
living in safety
being at ease
without fear of harm.
Grow me up, LORD.
Give me eyes to see it straight.
There’s a world of difference
between being free from harm
and free from pain.
You haven’t called me to a pain-free life.
The cross was unimaginable pain.
But You endured it
because of what was waiting for You
on the other side.
