Lazaroo – Sunday, January 22, 2012

Pray the words of this Lazaroo aloud…with fiery indignation:
“…you are receiving the goal of your faith, the salvation of your souls.”
(1 Peter 1:9)
Thanks for the reminder, Jesus.
Faith isn’t some generic characteristic all nice people should aspire to have.
My culture parrots phrases like –
“You gotta have faith!”
as though it’s a standalone value
unattached to anything in particular.
“Just believe!”
they intone – without saying in what –
as though belief itself is the point.
“You’ve got to believe in something”
they preach – as though I can pick at random
a person
place
thing
to trust.
Really?
If they truly believe in “belief”
why do they recommend it
with such an air of condescension?
No.
There’s a point to this business of
being sure of what I hope for
certain of what I cannot see.
My faith is in You.
And it has a real, tangible, all-important goal:
the salvation of my
needy
sorry
sin-sick
soul.
