Pray the words of this Lazaroo aloud, with no-holds-barred surrender:

“…each one is tempted when, by his own evil desire, he is dragged away and enticed.”
(James 1:14)

This is a hard truth to face, Jesus.

It’s tough enough to wrestle with temptation

but then to have You tell me
I’m the reason this temptation is so strong?

It’s my evil desire
that’s providing the handles Satan is using to drag me away?

Wow.

I’d rather view temptation as an attack from the outside.

But I have to come to grips with it, don’t I?

this is an inside job.

Maybe that’s the reason I’ve succumbed to temptation so often.

I’ve been marshaling all my defenses
against the threat “out there”

when I’ve needed to assign some of my soldiers
to stand guard “in here.”

“Not my brother, not my sister –

but it’s me, O LORD…

standin’ in the need of prayer.”
