Pray the words of this Lazaroo aloud, with renewed hope:

“Pick me up and throw me into the sea…”
(Jonah 1:12)

Sometimes I feel like that, Jesus.

I get so down on myself
so disgusted with my lack of progress
so sick of sinning the same old sins

that I could very easily give up.

So how can You bear putting up with me?

If anyone has a right to give up on me –

to “pick me up and throw me into the sea” –

it’s You.

But You don’t!

You’re always there for me –

in spite of my lousy track record.

You pick me up, all right –

but not to throw me into the sea!

Instead, You pick me up

brush off the dirt
set me on my feet

and send me back out in Your strength to try again.

Why?

You really love me, don’t You?

And my guess is…

that’s how You want me to treat others.
