Lazaroo – Monday, February 14, 2011

Pray the words of this Lazaroo aloud, with deepest gratitude:
“Put on sackcloth, O priests, and mourn; wail, you who minister before the altar. Come, spend the night in sackcloth, you who minister before my God…”
(Joel 1:13)
It’s not enough for ordinary people to be in anguish, is it, Jesus?
You expect Your leaders to feel it
You expect them to share the pain
of their group
their family
their students and classmates
their employees
their staff and volunteers
their city
their nation
their world
Your Church.
You call on them to take the elevator all the way down from their penthouses to street level
to “put on sackcloth” –
shedding their fine clothes and sophisticated mannerisms
to just be one of us
taking the same hit everybody else has to take.
You expect them to drop to their knees and humble themselves
bending double in agony over the heartache of Your people.
Because that’s exactly what You did…for me.
