Lazaroo – Sunday, November 21, 2010

Pray the words of this Lazaroo aloud, with the utmost reverence:
“Serve the LORD with fear and rejoice with trembling. Kiss the Son, lest he be angry and you be destroyed in your way, for his wrath can flare up in a moment. Blessed are all who take refuge in him.”
(Psalms 2:11-12)
What a politically incorrect demand, Jesus!
Most Christian leaders don’t talk like this anymore.
They tell us to serve You without fear.
They want us to rejoice in You with confidence –
not with trembling.
They tell us to forget what we’ve heard about a scary God of wrath.
We never hear a word about the possibility of being destroyed
because we don’t show You the proper affection
because an outpouring of Your anger
can flare up at any time.
They’re offering us a sanitized version of You
then wondering why so many people feel so free
to live their lives in casual defiance of Your Word.
