Lazaroo – Friday, September 24, 2010
No comments, Sep 24, 2010
Pay the closest possible attention, as you pray aloud the words of this Lazaroo:
“Stop bringing meaningless offerings! Your incense is detestable to me. New Moons, Sabbaths and convocations — I cannot bear your evil assemblies. Your New Moon festivals and your appointed feasts my soul hates. They have become a burden to me; I am weary of bearing them.”
(Isaiah 1:13-14)
Why, Jesus?
How did this happen –
that You would come to despise
the very offerings, festivals, assemblies and feasts
You Yourself commanded Your people to observe?
It’s that word, “meaningless,” isn’t it?
When they’re meaningless to me
they’re meaningless to You.
Is that the reason You get so upset when I take Communion
as an afterthought
out of habit
without devoting single-minded focus
to the agony You endured on the cross to purchase my salvation?
without valuing and seeking wholehearted unity
with all those irritating, obnoxious, sinning Christians I know
who are no more deeply flawed
than am I?
