Lazaroo – Wednesday, June 2, 2010

Pray the words of this Lazaroo aloud, in holy fear:
“I will cut off from this place… those who bow down on the roofs to worship the starry host…”
(Zephaniah 1:4-5)
It’s so easy to do that, Jesus –
to worship Your creation
instead of their Creator
to become so engrossed in Your blessings
that I forget the One who gave me these gifts.
How different am I – really –
from those people who went up to their roofs
to bow down and worship the planets and stars?
I don’t recognize what I’m doing, because, of course,
I don’t call what I do,
“worship.”
I call it my
“family”
“career”
“friends”
“hobbies”
“entertainment.”
What harm is there in that?
None.
They’re all gifts of love from You
meant to be enjoyed
to make my life sweeter
to contribute to the lives of others
except when I cross the line into “worship”
and allow them to
block
hinder
weaken
my focus on You.
