Lazaroo – Saturday, January 2, 2010

Pray the words of this Lazaroo aloud, in humble obedience:
“…make every effort to add to your faith goodness…”
(2 Peter 1:5)
I’m a little surprised by this, Jesus.
You seldom use those words:
“Make every effort.”
So when You tell me to “make every effort” to do something, I expect it to be earth-shattering.
Not something that sounds like –
“be good.”
That’s the kind of thing parents say to their kids as they’re walking out the door when they can’t think of anything better to say.
Am I missing something?
I mean, anybody can be good, can’t they? Even people who don’t believe in You.
Still…
if it’s the very first thing You tell me to add to my faith
it must be important.
Interesting.
I can’t earn a place in heaven by being good.
I’m saved by faith alone.
But are You telling me that if my faith doesn’t produce goodness
it isn’t much good?
