What makes someone my “dear friend,” Jesus?

Is it the person who tells me what I want to hear?
Probably not.

Is it a person who tells me what I need to hear?

Well…that might make them a friend…
but not necessarily dear.

I’ve been told what I needed to hear before
but in such an obnoxious way that it was hard to receive.

A dear friend is someone who tells me what I need to hear with consideration, humility, respect

…and in love.
