Lazaroo – Saturday, March 6, 2010
Mar 06, 2010 I Lazaroo.
Pray the words of this Lazaroo aloud, with deep affection:
“It was here already, long ago; it was here before our time.”
(Ecclesiastes 1:10)
My culture is so infatuated with what’s new, Jesus.
And no wonder! A lot of what’s new
is You –
making our lives better
opening us to Your wonders.
But please don’t let me become so enamored with the new
that I overlook the gifts You’ve already given me –
some of which were here long before I was born.
Some of Your oldest gifts
are among Your very best:
friends I grew up with
fought and made up with
had fun with and got in trouble with
who were there for me when I needed them the most
songs even older than my friends
whose ancient words have strengthened generations
threadbare, out-of-style clothes
more comfortable than anything I can find in stores.
But most of all, Your ageless Word
which has stood the test of all time.
