Pray the words of this Lazaroo aloud, in humble awareness:

“Then the astrologers answered the king in Aramaic, ‘O king, live forever!’”
(Daniel 2:4)

Why would anyone say something like that, Jesus?

I understand they were kissing up.
I realize that’s how people talked to kings.

But they were telling this ruler to do something he couldn’t do!

The king knew he couldn’t live forever.
The astrologers knew he couldn’t live forever.
The king knew the astrologers knew he couldn’t live forever.

So if everyone was smart enough to know this was a stupid statement

why did they bother saying it?

Of course, I’d never say anything stupid

in order to get somebody to like me
to keep somebody from hurting me
to soften them up so I could get something I want

…would I.

I wouldn’t…

…so long as I managed to keep in mind that there is only One who can truly take care of me.
