Lazaroo – Sunday, June 13, 2010
Jun 13, 2010 I Lazaroo.
Pray the words of this Lazaroo aloud all the way to the marrow of your bones:
“He came to that which was his own, but his own did not receive him.”
(John 1:11)
I know how that feels, Jesus
but for an entirely different reason.
There have been times when I’ve been criticized, scorned, mistrusted, rejected
by friends
family
fellow Christians.
Something happens at the core of me in that moment
when I realize the people I was so sure I could count on
have distanced themselves from me
left me standing alone
turned against me.
It hurts –
all the more because it’s so unexpected –
like the turning of a deeply-embedded knife.
But I’m a sinner.
I have it coming –
if not for the issue at hand
then for other sins they know nothing about.
But You were perfect.
And still Your own people shouted, “Crucify him!”
Your wound goes much deeper
hurts far more
than mine ever could.
Yet You endured it
for me.
