Lazaroo – Sunday, May 12, 2013
May 12, 2013 I Lazaroo.
Pray the words of this Lazaroo aloud, in humility before God:
“‘I baptize with water,’ John replied, ‘but among you stands one you do not know. He is the one who comes after me, the thongs of whose sandals I am not worthy to untie.’”
(John 1:26-27)
Count me in there with John, Jesus.
I’m not worthy to perform even the most menial task for You.
That’s not me being modest.
That’s a fact.
The problem is…
I keep forgetting that
clear
obvious
inarguable
fact.
That’s why, when things don’t go the way I want them to, I cry out in baffled anguish –
“What did I do to deserve this?!”
Seriously?
If I got what I deserved
You’d squash me like a bug.
Instead, You treat me with inexplicable
kindness
tenderness
generosity
mercy
love.
On those occasions when I’m called on to
inconvenience myself for others
sacrifice myself for You
I’m still being treated infinitely better
than I deserve.
