(Jeremiah 2:18)

Good question, Jesus.

You miraculously rescued Your people from Egypt.
You brought them to a land of beautiful rivers and flowing streams.

How dare they even think of returning to a branch of the Nile –
the land of their slavery – to get a drink?

The same could be asked of me whom You’ve rescued from sin’s slavery

when I’m tempted to return for a little sip.
