Lazaroo – Thursday, February 25, 2010
Feb 25, 2010 I Lazaroo.
Pray the words of this Lazaroo aloud, in humble confession:
“For God did not give us a spirit of timidity, but a spirit of power, of love and of self-discipline.”
(2 Timothy 1:7)
I have to admit it.
Sometimes I am timid –
too timid to buck the crowd, even when I can see they’re making a mistake
too timid to speak a truth that risks the displeasure of someone I love
too timid to commit to a strategic task that looks like too much work
too timid to stand up for an unpopular person who’s in the right
too timid to seize an opportunity outside my comfort zone
too timid to confront someone who’s in the wrong
too timid to say no to a powerful person
I’m not sure where that spirit of timidity comes from, Jesus…
but this passage from Your Word makes one thing crystal clear:
It’s not from You.

Wow, Pastor Steve — this is such a powerful verse. I believe all of us struggle with this at different times in our lives. Years ago I came across an “acrostic” defining the word “FEAR”, which is so much like timidity.

This may help someone else — it has helped me. Our God is on our side, He has placed His Spirit within us. The Lord in us and with us, is greater than a multitude. May that truth be ingrained in us!
