Feb 25, 2010 I Lazaroo.

Pray the words of this Lazaroo aloud, in humble confession:

“For God did not give us a spirit of timidity, but a spirit of power, of love and of self-discipline.”
(2 Timothy 1:7)

I have to admit it.

Sometimes I am timid –

too timid to buck the crowd, even when I can see they’re making a mistake
too timid to speak a truth that risks the displeasure of someone I love
too timid to commit to a strategic task that looks like too much work
too timid to stand up for an unpopular person who’s in the right
too timid to seize an opportunity outside my comfort zone
too timid to confront someone who’s in the wrong
too timid to say no to a powerful person

I’m not sure where that spirit of timidity comes from, Jesus…

but this passage from Your Word makes one thing crystal clear:

It’s not from You.

Wow, Pastor Steve — this is such a powerful verse. I believe all of us struggle with this at different times in our lives. Years ago I came across an “acrostic” defining the word “FEAR”, which is so much like timidity.

    False
    Evidence
    Appearing
    Real

This may help someone else — it has helped me. Our God is on our side, He has placed His Spirit within us. The Lord in us and with us, is greater than a multitude. May that truth be ingrained in us!

I love this verse of scripture. Over and over again the world calls christians weak, timid and all this christianity stuff is nothing more than a crutch to deal wtih life’s problems. This verse reminds us not only that the world is mistaken and misled, but it calls us to be strong in the Lord through His Spirit. Step one, know Him! Step two, GET IN THE WORD!, our bibles ought not sit in the same place we left them all week gathering dust, rather we should to study His word to present ourselves to God, a workman approved, who need not be ashamed but who correctly handles the word of truth.
