Lazaroo – Tuesday, July 28, 2009

Jul 28, 2009 I Lazaroo.

Pray the words of this Lazaroo aloud, with bottomless trust:

“…a different gospel—which is really no gospel at all.”
(Galatians 1:6-7)

We’ve got a real problem with this, Jesus.

The people of my generation tend to change the things we don’t like.

Sometimes that’s good – in the case of prejudice, poverty and injustice.

But not when it comes to the redeeming power of Your gospel – the good news of Your death, burial and resurrection.

Our self-images balk at the admission that we are filthy sinners who cannot save ourselves.

Our squeamishness shrinks from speaking of Your blood that paid for our sins.

Our worship of diversity chokes on Your claim to be the only way to heaven.

And the watered-down “gospel” we have left retains none of its power.

O God! May I never be ashamed of my only hope:

Your bold, outrageous, life-giving gospel.

God fill my mouth with YOUR words. My words either alienate people from you, or weaken the perception they have of You.
