Lazaroo – Wednesday, April 28, 2010
Apr 28, 2010 I Lazaroo.
Pray the words of this Lazaroo aloud, with a tender heart open to understanding:
“They will be punished with everlasting destruction and shut out from the presence of the Lord and from the majesty of his power.”
(2 Thessalonians 1:9)
I cringe at this idea of “everlasting destruction,” Jesus
even for thoroughly rotten people who have totally rejected You.
Maybe it’s because I fail to grasp the full gravity of their crime.
If so, please forgive my spiritual blindness and insensitivity.
It’s just that I can’t help but wonder…
instead of punishing them forever
why not simply let this life be the end for them?
that’s what most of them believe will happen anyway.
Is it because You’ve made us in Your image –
that since You Yourself are everlasting
making us “little gods”
designed to live forever in heaven with You –
then those who reject You
still have to live forever
somewhere else?
O God.
Anywhere without You
is hell.
