Lazaroo – Wednesday, August 10, 2011

Aug 10, 2011 I Lazaroo.

Pray the words of this Lazaroo aloud, with fresh awareness:

“In all this, Job did not sin by charging God with wrongdoing.”
(Job 1:22)

I’d never do that, Jesus.

Not knowingly.

But I wonder how close I come to this sin…

when I complain about the weather –

aren’t You the one who controls the weather?

when I protest the cruelty of some manmade disaster –

even though you have the power to step in
and stop every one of them?

when I become horribly upset because my plans fell through –

but doesn’t every human plan get submitted to You
for a final thumbs up…or thumbs down?

when I become angry because I can’t fall asleep or stay asleep –

except…aren’t You the one who makes my sleep possible?

when I rail against the unfairness of life –

even though You control it all?

Maybe I’d better hold my tongue…

and trust that You know what You’re doing.

  1. Scott B Says:

Steve, my initial thought was to react to the use of the words “Maybe I’d better hold my tongue …” and I thought to comment the prayer works except for that line, since I very (piously I’m sure) thought there’s no MAYBE on holding my tongue. But second thoughts made me say, good choice of words actually. As I thought of all the times David spoke up and asked God question after question about the circumstances of his life. Then I thought God ultimately sees the heart and knows what we are really asking and doing in relation to His action or what seems to be His lack of action and it is important to know when to hold our tongue and when to speak with Him about it all … so agreed, MAYBE I’d better hold my tongue (at times) … and tust that He knows what He’s doing.
