We human beings think we understand the way life works. We

read a little bit of history
listen to the opinions of others
try to keep up with what’s going on
take stock of the things that have happened in our own lives

then draw our conclusions

solemnly announcing our predictions
with a high degree of confidence.

We think we – or at least the “smart” people among us – have it pretty well figured out.

Then You show up in power!

In a moment, You

thwart our plans
change all the rules
shatter our expectations

and drop us to our knees, humbled

in worship.
