Pray the words of this Lazaroo aloud, with rekindled hope:

“Reuben…was the firstborn, but when he defiled his father’s marriage bed, his rights as firstborn were given to the sons of Joseph son of Israel; so he could not be listed in the genealogical record in accordance with his birthright…”
(1 Chronicles 5:1)

I’ve blown it too, Jesus

and like Reuben, it’s cost me.

It hurts – deeply – to be forced to step aside

to watch others take my place
to see them enjoy the

opportunities
experiences
privileges

that could have been mine.

The taste is bitter on my tongue –

especially because – like Reuben –
there’s nothing I can do to regain what I lost.

But You can.

You’re the firstborn of God

the firstborn from the dead
the firstborn over all creation
the leader of a whole church of the firstborn!

That’s my Church!
You’re my God!

And in You I am restored

to the life of the firstborn.
