Ask God to give you an “Aha!” moment…as you pray aloud the words of this Lazaroo:

“The LORD said to Moses in the Desert of Sinai…”
(Numbers 3:14)

This doesn’t surprise me, Jesus –

and not only because of who Moses is
not merely because You and he are close.

This may be when I most often hear You speaking to me:

in the desert.

Once I’ve made it to an oasis

my hearing isn’t quite as sharp.

There’s too much noise on the beach
so much raucous celebration at the finish line
there are way too many distractions up in some penthouse

to hear Your quiet voice deep within me.

But somehow…even when the hot winds are howling their loudest
when the merciless sun is baking down on my neck
when my lips are cracked and my throat is parched

I’m able to discern Your softest whisper in the desert.

Perhaps that’s why You allow me

to spend so much time here.
