Lazaroo – Tuesday, August 31, 2010
No comments, Aug 31, 2010
Pray the words of this Lazaroo aloud, in full alert humility:
“At this, all Adonijah’s guests rose in alarm and dispersed. But Adonijah, in fear of Solomon, went and took hold of the horns of the altar.”
(1 Kings 1:49-50)
How can I blame this man, Jesus?
Sure – he sinned.
He conspired with others behind his father’s back to proclaim himself the next king of Israel.
When David instead named Solomon to be his successor, Adonijah knew he was in immediate mortal danger.
Just as I am, when I’m forced to face the consequences of my own sin.
Adonijah ran to Your altar
grabbed hold of its horns
and pleaded for mercy.
Just as I run to You, when I’ve sinned.
David gave his sinful son another chance.
Just as You have so often, for me.
But when Adonijah abused the opportunity his father gave him
it cost him his life.
May that be where Adonijah and I
part company.
